N2 CUBEN FIBER TARP

There are plenty of ultralight tarps out there, but they aren't as light as this one! I designed the N2 tarp to have a sub 2 ounce finished weight. Not only did it end up being less than 2 ounces, it is actually 1.8 ounces of super ultralight goodness! Don't think this little beauty is small either - measuring 52" wide and 110" long, it gives plenty of coverage for someone my size. Made from the lightest weight cuben fiber available, there was more to it then simply cutting and sewing. I had to get creative and use the same adhesive I used on my stuffsack to bond the tieout reinforcements to the main tarp material, and then sew the tieouts afterwards. But, no reason to give you a full explanation on how to make one of these, because I made a new episode (On The Trail - Episode 4) that covers everything you need to know!

Description: Measures 52" wide X 110" long. The main tarp material is made from 0.33 oz/yd cuben fiber. There are 8 tieout points along the corners and edges. Each tieout is made from 5" of 5/8" wide grossgrain webbing, sewn using 2 lines of zigzag stitching, which gives a nice large circle to fit a trekking pole into. The tieouts are sewn to reinforcement triangles that have a 5" hypoteneuse and are bonded to the main tarp material using Hysol U-09FL. The edges are folded over and a row of stitching is sewn around the perimeter to give a finished look and to help eliminate tears and stress points.

Weight: 1.8 oz (51 grams).

Notes: Tarps manufactured from fabrics in this weight/strength range should only be used by an experienced tarp user. Weather conditions and site selection are of utmost importance when using a shelter as light as this one.
